High Speed 2 is a major high speed line project, launched in 2019 in England, relying London to the Midlands in the north of the country. This line will be the second high speed line in UK, after the Channel Tunnel. STRABAG, an international construction company working on HS2, places an order with ACIMEX for 2 segment grabs.
ACIMEX technology does its work overseas
To successfully complete the huge HS2 tunnel construction site, the STRABAG company asked for 2 segment grabs in order to lift 1, 2 or 3 concrete segments simultaneously on the surface of the worksite, and to handle them at the bottom of the well, supplying the TBM.
ACIMEX equipped the 2 grabs with different technologies to ensure optimal action :
- Sensors linked to indicators shows the operator when the grab is laid, and the opening and closing positions of the grab
- The grabs are also equipped with wheels with spring return to provide guidance along the stack to be handled
- The rotation of the grab facilitates the taking of the concrete segments and the descent into the supplying well
- A geared motor allows a precised angular positioning of the grab, for a better grip or deposit of the concrete segments
